About Fastlane

History

Brett Lupton, the owner of Fastlane, has an extensive knowledge of the Motor Sport Industry, having spent the best part of his career on the World Stage. His training began in the very competitive fields of British F3 and European Formula 3000 and Formula 1. Working in teams such as Brabham's Yamaha and Leyton House March F1 and Eddie Jordan Racing. After working with Canadian Allen Berg for two years he set his sights on America and in particular Jeff Andretti and Ralt America's SuperVee.

Many famous drivers have been helped throughout their careers. Paul Radisich (now with Team KIWI), Mauricio Gugelman (Pacwest Indy Car), and Martin Brundle (LeMans 24hr) as well the Andretti's, Stephan Johnasson and others. This experience with some of the most high profile teams and drivers has given Brett a very rare insight into the professional management of motor sport marketing at the highest levels in the world.

This experience was put to good use in 1992 when Brett decided to open up shop in Perth, and so Fastlane was born. The company has since grown in leaps and bounds to become the largest privately owned Formula Ford (FFord) race team, and one of only a few racing driver schools, in Australia.

In 1999, Brett and his team, also put their hands into designing their on Hybrid FFord. Based on the '94-'95 chassis, the care was redesigned to include the best attributes from all the cars that the team has owned over the six years since conception. The chassis, nick-named the "Stealth", has gone on to take out the New Zealand Championship in 2001, 2002 and 2003, as well as the Australian National Championship in 2003 and several state championships. The cars still perform on par all over Australia and New Zealand.

Brett now owns more than eight late model Formula Fords and maintains most of the other cars in the regular field at Wanneroo Raceway, as well as different Formula race cars. The team have moved to a permanent workshop at the track and a purpose-built extension to house the driving school will be ready in 2007.

The office area will be adorned with trophies and souvenirs, including a trophy presented to Brett in 1997 by Ford Motorsport Australia for his outstanding contributions to Formula Ford in Australia.

The workshop boasts some of the best equipment needed to run a successful team and all of it under the one roof. From the in-house machine shop with it's specialist tools and machinery, to the dyno room and engine building room, Fastlane can boast the best facilities rarely seen at Formula Ford level in Australia. Fastlane is the only team to build it's own cars and engines under one roof. The eye for detail shown by Brett and the team mirrored in the transporter with it's array of spares in purpose-built storage. A place for everything and everything in it's place.

The Young Guns

Fastlane had, through it's Schools and other successful programs, trained many a "Young Gun" who have gone onto dizzying heights in motorsport.

Our most successful prodigy is Garth Tander. Garth entered a driver school after having had very successfully campaigned in Karts and so impressed Brett and the instructors that he was offered a drive in a Fastlane Formula Ford. He went on to be employed as a mechanic / technician to gain further insight, before going on to win State titles.

In 1997, Garth and our then sponsors, decided to take on the National Title and so compete in front of the world at the Australian Grand Prix. He skill was soon very apparent to all comers as he won the support races. He went on to win the 1997 National Championship and collect every trophy available along the way, including Rookie-of-the-Year and of course National Champion.

In mid 1998 he was offered a drive in the V8 Supercar category. Gary Rogers Motorsport and his Valvoline/Cummins team would soon have their first series win, as well as several other podium positions with Garth at the wheel of their VS Commodore. In 2000 Garth had an excellent year which culminated in winning Bathurst. He also won the Bathurst 24hr in one of the GRM Monaros. In 2005 Garth joined the HSV Dealer Team and looks forward to a great year ahead now that the team has gelled and progressed forward with a very positive end to the season.

In 1998 Christian Murchison competed at the Grand Prix, Nationals and Local Series as well as a stint in the workshop. That year he produced a win at the Grand Prix, Fastest Lap and a new lap record as well as pole. He was also Rookie-of-the-Year in 1998 and won the Local Series, but just in front of team mate Stuart Kostera Junior. A rather severe accident in the final round at Oran Park did not dampen is spirits as he was also part of the 1999 team. Christian has since gone on to drive with Perkins racing at Bathurst, Formula Holden National Champion Runner-Up and also Team Dams in Formula Renault V6 in Europe.

Stuart Kostera Junior has also been a successful part of our team. Driving the in-house developed "Stealth" he campaigned at the Grand Prix and Nationals, taking two wins out of two at Wanneroo in the 1999 Championship. A very commanding lead in the points for Rookie-of-the-Year saw him take out that title some 3 races early and finish 4th in the Championship overall.

The School

Fastlane also runs a very successful Racing Driver School at Wanneroo Raceway. Taking advantage of the 1.7 kilometre short circuit has made this a very safe and visually enjoyable environment for a good day out, and a starting platform for up-and-coming Webbers and Schumachers. The school is a great marketing tool with some 350 plus, private and corporate customers enjoying the experience every year. The figures for 2006 have so far shown that there is a steady increase in interest and we believe that numbers will have to be substantially increased for next year. It has proven to be an excellent way for the corporate world, such as your company, to entertain existing and new clients as well as a great incentive for employees.

We have moved into out new purpose built facility and will include a purpose built area to house the Driving School. Most teams in Europe are located at the track or in close proximity and we believe this can only help us in the next stage of the Fastlane story. This facility will become an integral part of the expansion of Fastlane and our sponsors and team will all prosper from it. Apart from making for a better work environment on race day it also means that those attending the schools will be able to see first hand, what actually goes into running a successful race team.
